Join Silvia Barisione, Chief Curator at The Wolfsonian–FIU in Miami, for a talk on the birth and rise of Art Deco style. Learn about the cultural and industrial changes that shaped 1920s Paris and propelled the spread of Art Deco aesthetics around the world. Barisione will highlight classic examples of Art Deco design from several countries, including objects on loan from The Wolfsonian and posters and 3D works from the Crouse Collection.

Silvia Barisione is Chief Curator at The Wolfsonian–FIU. During her tenure she has curated many exhibitions, including The Rebirth of Rome; Modern Dutch Design; and Made in Italy: MITA Textile Design 1926–1976, which was mounted in collaboration with The Wolfsoniana, The Wolfsonian’s sister institution in Genoa, Italy, where she served as founding curator. Silvia earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in art history and German literature from the University of Genoa. Her research focuses primarily on 20th-century decorative arts and design. She has written extensively in the field, contributing to and authoring various exhibition catalogs including “L’Architecture de Miami Beach” in the catalog L’Art Déco: France, Amerique du Nord published in 2021 by the Cité de l’Architecture in Paris.

In 2014, Silvia was bestowed the Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) by the Italian government, which is awarded to outstanding expatriates promoting Italian culture and elevating national prestige abroad.
