About Suzanne Lucas and the Hot Boyz

For her first time on the SAM stage, meet Suzanne Lucas, the exquisite jazz singer from Brooklyn, NY. She captivates audiences with her unparalleled ability to craft each song into a unique masterpiece. In the world of jazz, her spellbinding phrasing and soulful interpretation weaves stories through her music like no other. She received rave reviews from Francis Ford Coppola in the Village Voice, playing with “Gift of Eagle” productions, and has performed throughout the US and Europe.

“James Varnardo”, an exceptional drummer, grew up playing music in the church and studied at Southern University, Baton Rouge LA. He provides the intrinsic rhythmic foundation, infusing each piece with energy and precision.

A local talent, “Jack Berry” received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for playing upright bass at Pine View High School. He has toured extensively & recorded in the US & Canada, has been featured on CNN, performed at the 2018 Montréal International Jazz Festival, and played in Times Square with his own sustainability edutainment band ‘The Garbage-Men.’

Berklee College of Music graduate “Ruffus” is a multi-instrumentalist on piano, saxophone, melodica, flute and more. His fingers dance across the keys and instruments, adding depth and dimension to every note.

For one special night, adding a touch of magic to their ensemble is special guest star, “Ed Coogan.” Residing full time in Gainesville, he is an accomplished jazz harmonica player who has graced the stages of numerous jazz orchestras and bands.

“Suzanne Lucas and the HotBoyz” are a testament to the beauty of jazz, where every performance is a journey into the heart and soul of the music you love.
